Skin ultrasound

Skin ultrasound

While planning aesthetic medicine procedures, each physician should make a baseline assessment of the skin’s condition. Thanks to the advancements in medical science and new technologies, It is not a problem to do it nowadays.

A healthy skin ultrasound image presents the three basic anatomical parts of the skin, namely the epidermis, the dermis and the subcutaneous tissue. Furthermore, we can visualise skin appendages, such as nails, hair follicles and sweat glands.

Taking into account the benefits offered by ultrasound scanners dedicated to skin examination in aesthetic medicine, such devices provide the basis for skin diagnosis as well as monitoring and tracking the progress of therapies/treatments applied.

When the skin is diagnosed using ultrasonography, we are able to assess its current condition by referring the image of a given patient’s skin to an image of a healthy skin. In this regard, the necessary information is obtained by analysing the image of epidermis and dermis. In the case of the epidermis, we primarily observe its structure and thickness. Ultrasonography is an irreplaceable tool for assessing the skin’s condition related to the natural ageing and photo-ageing.

In the case of medical procedures, the possibility of “looking deeply under the skin” offered by ultrasound helps us eliminate such complications as haematomas and prevent preparations from being administered into an improper area or into a blood vessel.

The Healthy Skin Centre is equipped with a high-class ultrasound scanner for this type of imaging.
