Eyelid surgery

Blepharoplasty (eyelid correction) is a procedure which gives your face a youthful appearance. It can be divided into two stages, namely the correction of upper eyelids and the correction of lower eyelids, with the possibility of combining both of them. The procedure is intended to remove the excessive amount of skin in the upper eyelids or the so-called “bags under the eyes” in the case of lower eyelids.

This treatment is intended for patients who complain about the aesthetic problem of the so-called drooping eyelids. In the case of lower eyelids, patients are qualified for the correction procedure based on the presence of the so-called “bags under the eyes”, which cannot be reduced during standard home care or at a cosmetic surgery. The patient’s age does not matter in the case of these treatments because the above-mentioned problems can be inherited genetically or result from the impact of environmental factors.

The procedure is performed under local anaesthesia. It primarily involves excision of excess skin and fat from the surgical site. In the case of upper eyelid correction, the excision is made in the natural skin folds, thus making the scar invisible after the recovery period. During the correction of lower eyelids, the incision is done along the entire lash line and the cut is closed using fine stitches. A person qualified for a procedure under local anaesthesia should have the following tests results:

  • complete blood count
  • blood coagulation factors (APTT/INR)
  • creatinine levels
  • electrolyte levels (Na-sodium, K-potassium)

Immediately after the eyelid correction procedure, the patient can go home, keeping in mind the physician's instructions and recommendations.

The recovery period after eyelid correction is usually about two weeks. Due to the fact that the skin in the eye area is very thin, the post-incision scars are almost invisible. Stitches are removed on the 4-5 day after the procedure.
